Beer Coasters The English IPA Issue
Friday, August 20, 2010 at 9:30AM
'Ello Gov'na! This week we visit where it all began with some Americanized versions of the traditional English IPA. In the Fermentation Conversation, we celebrate Stone's 14th year with the Emperial IPA. Then Chris gets knighted by the 400 Pound Monkey from Left Hand Brewing. Back East, Mike steps into a phone booth and gets zapped into the Middle Ages with the ImPaled Ale. Toby has nothing this week, so we put him in the iron maiden - excellent!
We really appreciate all our listeners. Thanks for joining us in the craft beer community. Cheers!

I was able to try the 14th Anniversary at the Stone brewery a little while back and my opinion was mixed. It's okay but it was too sweet for me. I could definitely sense the hoppiness, but the sweet character took away from the dry bitterness I usually like in an IPA. I was hoping for more of a traditional British India Pale Ale like Fuller's or Samuel Smith's. Not that they should have copied the English brewers...I realize Stone was trying to do something unique. But they direction they took didn't impress me. I'll take a Ruination IPA instead. Just my 2 cents.
